Attention Amberg! Christmas market opens – mulled wine price remains stable!
The 38th Christmas market opened its doors in Amberg on November 26, 2025. The focus is on the celebratory presentation of the new dark blue mulled wine cup, which is decorated with the motif of the Maria Schnee church. Mayor Michael Cerny made the presentation and pointed out that the cup captured the charm of the small church in the Atzlricht district, while the wooden stars stylishly complemented the motif. This year you can admire the Basilica of St. Martin without scaffolding for the first time during a leisurely tour of the market square.
The Christmas market, which stretches across the market square, not only offers a beautiful backdrop, but also a stable price for mulled wine. Despite increased costs for the PWG, the price for a mulled wine remains 4 euros, while the deposit remains at 2 euros. This is welcome news for visitors, especially given the tense price developments in other markets in Germany, where mulled wine prices can sometimes reach up to five euros. A look at Saxony shows that the average price for mulled wine in major cities is predicted to be 5 euros, while in eastern Germany the cheapest prices are sometimes even 4.27 euros reports Mercury.
A varied supporting program
The Christmas market in Amberg not only surprises with its stable pricing, but also with an exciting supporting program. Every Saturday at 5:30 p.m. the town hall brass band delights visitors with festive sounds. A special highlight will be the big Christmas singing on the last Saturday before Christmas Eve, also at 5.30 p.m. In order to ensure the safety of market patrons and guests, a comprehensive security concept was developed for the stalls and sidewalks.
Peter Harant, chairman of the PWG, emphasized the importance of the districts and announced considerations for innovations in the coming years, such as extending the opening days. The Christmas market invites you to get in the mood for the upcoming festive season in the atmospheric old town.
