Amberg is looking for magnificent Christmas trees: Join in and apply!
The anticipation for the Christmas season is growing, and in Amberg the city administration has already invited people to the first preparations. The large Christmas tree for the market square and Malteserplatz is a highlight of the celebrations and is eagerly awaited. The city of Amberg is urgently looking for magnificent Christmas trees because there are not enough suitable specimens on the reserve list. The department head Jonas Schmidt noted that many of the trees sought can often be found in private or company gardens. This custom has a long tradition in Germany, as the history of the Christmas tree impressively shows.
For everyone who has a suitable tree to offer: We are looking for spruce, blue spruce, Douglas fir, Colorado fir, Nordmann fir and noble fir trees. The demands on the trees are high: They should be between 15 and 20 meters high, have a crown width of 5 to 7 meters and a trunk circumference of between 1 and 1.80 meters. In addition, a species-appropriately developed tree crown, a straight main trunk with a point, healthy needles and even branching up to the tip are precise requirements that must be met.
The Christmas tree – a piece of tradition
The Christmas tree, or as it is popularly known, the Christmas tree, has developed into a central element of the Christmas season in German-speaking countries. The custom of decorating a conifer with lights, baubles and tinsel can be traced back to the 19th century. The Christmas tree took on a special meaning as a symbol of the “tree of paradise” in Christianity. The tradition of the Christmas tree spread from Germany throughout the world and is particularly anchored in different ways in countries such as Sweden and Poland.
In Amberg, Christmas trees are not only put up for decorative purposes, but also represent a deep-rooted tradition that is passed down from generation to generation. Freshly felled trees, such as the popular Nordmann fir, can last up to four weeks with the right care, making the Advent season a colorful and festive experience.
