New Master in Motorsport Engineering: Entry into e-racing at OTH!
In the coming summer semester of 2026, OTH Amberg-Weiden is launching a new master's degree program in Motorsport Engineering, which could be a real hit for both students and the entire industry. How oberpfalzecho.de reports, this course of study at a state university in Germany is unique and focuses on future-oriented topics such as electric drives and modern vehicle technologies.
Engineers who want to broaden their horizons and specialize in the development of racing and high-performance vehicles will find an ideal opportunity here. The content of the course is as diverse as it is exciting: from drive systems and vehicle dynamics to aerodynamics and CAD design. Knowledge in the area of autonomous driving can also be acquired here.
Committed students and valuable partnerships
A special highlight of the course is the close collaboration with the Running Snail Racing Team, the Formula Student Team at OTH Amberg-Weiden. The students have the opportunity to design and manufacture an electric racing car themselves and bring it to the test bench and race track. With the support of over 100 partner companies from the motorsport and automotive industries, participants also gain valuable practical insights.
The new master's program is aimed at graduates of engineering bachelor's programs - and applications from other universities are also welcome, especially from former members of the Formula Student team. The degree is Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), and the career prospects are promising: motorsport teams, automobile manufacturers, supplier companies and applied research are open to graduates.
Information about the Master and Formula Student
In order to get to know the new degree program better, the university is inviting you to an online information event called “Master on Air” on December 11th. The live stream will be broadcast on the OTH Amberg-Weiden YouTube channel and is a great opportunity to clarify all questions about the course and the focus of the content.
If we take a look at the underlying initiative that provides the framework for engineers' practical learning, the Formula Student to mention. Originally launched in 1981 by SAE in the USA, this design competition quickly spread worldwide - there are now over 500 international teams active, including many from Germany. The event scores points with project-oriented learning and offers aspiring engineers excellent preparation for the world of work.
Teams develop a single-seater formula car and have to pay attention not only to the speed, but also to the entire concept of the vehicle - from the design to the economic aspects to the sales presentation. This combination of theory and practice is what the Formula Student so unique and educational.
Whether through the new master's degree program or participation in Formula Student, the OTH Amberg-Weiden is positioning itself as an innovative educational location that offers young talents the opportunity to put their passion for motorsport into practice.
