SV Inter Amberg separates from coaching duo – hope for a turning point!
SV Inter Bergsteig Amberg is deep in a sporting crisis. The team has been eagerly waiting for a win in the North District League for five games. In the last two matches against Tännesberg and Vohenstrauß they even left the pitch without scoring their own goal and had to lose both games. With just 14 points from 16 games, the team has now slipped into the relegation zone and those responsible saw a need for action.
In the midst of this sporting misery, Julian Ceesay and Helmut Jurek, who acted as player-coaches, were relieved of their positions on Sunday evening. This decision reflected the precarious table situation and the noticeable downward trend. Ceesay, 36, and Jurek, 37, had previously expressed their wish for an immediate separation, which the club immediately complied with. Both coaches said goodbye to their team before Thursday's training.
A sad farewell
Helmut Jurek took over SV Inter Bergsteig Amberg in the summer of 2021 and led the club to the district league championship in 2023, which ultimately secured relegation in the North District League. Julian Ceesay came from DJK Gibbach in 2023 and became player-coach a year later. Those responsible and club members expressed their thanks for the work done and the successful promotion to the district league. Jurek himself was insightful in an interview and described the separation as understandable because he took responsibility for the current unpleasant situation.
Both coaches said they wanted to remain loyal to the club as spectators and fans. After a short break of one or two weeks, they plan to think about their sporting future. The club has already found an interim solution as coach with Stefan Meisel, a permanently injured striker, and is in discussions with potential successors.
The search for stability
SV Inter Bergsteig Amberg hopes to be able to present a long-term solution for the coaching position before the winter break. The situation in the bottom of the district league table is not just a headache for Amberg. Other clubs are also struggling with their own challenges. For example, SpVgg Diepersdorf's home game against FC Herzogenaurach was canceled due to a lack of staff. After a significant defeat against FC Ottensoos, coach Stefan Hampl resigned, while the new coaching duo Alexander Stengel and Christian Bulinger took to the sidelines to lead the team out of the crisis.
The current sporting challenges in the district league make it clear that this league not only requires football skills, but also the right hand in personnel policy. It remains to be seen whether SV Inter Bergsteig Amberg will manage to get out of the relegation zone in time. The next few weeks will be crucial.
