After a hot weekend, tragic traffic accidents occurred in Bavaria that claimed several lives. Tragic events in the Upper Palatinate
Another serious accident occurred in the Upper Palatinate. An 18-year-old passenger was killed when the 19-year-old driver was driving at an inappropriate speed. The car overturned after attempting to brake and the young man died at the scene of the accident. The driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Here the police are also investigating negligent homicide and secured the vehicle.
Accident statistics and road safety
The recent events cast a bad light on road safety in Bavaria. The traffic accident statistics show that with 495 traffic deaths in 2024, the number was four lower than in the previous year. The total number of traffic accidents fell by 2.0% to 381,063. Nevertheless, there was an increase in the number of cyclists killed - 94 in total - which corresponds to around one in five traffic fatalities.
