Christmas package for Eastern Europe: Amberg is packing up!

In the run-up to Christmas, a nice sign of solidarity will once again be made in Amberg. The Round Table 235 Amberg-Sulzbach service club is once again launching its “Children help children” campaign to collect packages for needy children in Eastern Europe. Loud Upper Palatinate echo The gifts will be collected in daycare centers and schools in the region until November 15th with the aim of reaching as many children as possible this Christmas.

Dominik Lenz, who is actively involved in the organization, emphasizes that for many children in these regions the package is often the only present at Christmas. “It is important to us that every package makes a difference,” explains Lenz. Five members of the Round Table, including Lenz, will personally distribute the collected packages directly to the border with Moldova in Iasi, Romania.

Logistical masterpiece

The logistical challenge is considerable. A total of 11 trucks, generously provided free of charge by the Wagner shipping company, have to be coordinated to transport around 50,000 packages. Last year, more than 15,000 packages were collected, including around 1,500 from Amberg and the district. This year the Round Table is aiming for a scale similar to that shown mittelbayerische.de is reported. It is also mentioned here that children collect and donate well-preserved toys, crayons, children's clothing and hygiene products.

The packages can be dropped off at several locations in Amberg, including the Kraus driving school, various branches of the Bayern Versicherungskammer, Optik-Klenck branches and E-Center. In order for the packages to be transported safely, they must be packed in shoeboxes or similar containers, tightly sealed and labeled with a sticker indicating the gender and age of the child. The collected material is then coordinated in the regional collection warehouse.

A big difference for children in Eastern Europe

The packages, which will be delivered no later than Saturday, November 15th, are intended for children in Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania, Poland and at the Ukrainian border. The actual transport of the Christmas parcel convoy takes place between November 30th and December 7th. It is impressive to see that over 130,000 parcels have found their way to Eastern Europe every year in recent years, which shows how important and effective such initiatives are. “Every package counts,” is the motto of the round table, and it becomes clear that a small gesture can have a big impact.
