Federal Police Rosenheim: Decline in unauthorized entries surprised!

In recent months, the federal police in Germany have increased their border controls - in view of the ongoing challenges in cross-border crime. Numerous people have tried to enter Germany without permission, particularly through coaches. How nachrichten-heute.net reported, the numbers are alarming: 3,300 unauthorized entries and entry attempts were recorded in 2024 alone. A decrease of around 30 percent compared to the previous year, but this value shows that the problem is still current.

Some important countries of origin of the migrants should be mentioned here: Syria, Turkey and Ukraine top the list. Around 20 percent of those affected come from Syria. What is interesting is that most unauthorized entries take place via coaches (approx. 45%), followed by train journeys (approx. 30%). On average, almost ten people were caught every day without the necessary entry documents.

Expectations of the Federal Police

The Rosenheim Federal Police Inspectorate plays a crucial role in these efforts. Dr. Rainer Scharf, the inspection's contact person, emphasizes that the focus is not only on combating unauthorized entry, but also on solving drug violations and other crimes. The inspection, which covers districts such as Miesbach and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, has around 450 employees and ensures safety on around 370 kilometers of railway and in around 70 stations and stops. According to police director Stefan Kurth, such controls are particularly necessary to counteract illegal migration and cross-border crime.

There were more than 360 arrest warrants in 2023, underscoring the need for these measures. However, compared to previous years, fewer drug offenses were detected, which may indicate that the increased controls have been successful.

Political reactions and future outlook

The new Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has spoken out in favor of tightening these measures. And how presseportal.de reported, these checks also led to an increase in arrests. In recent weeks, 139 smugglers and 859 people have been arrested with outstanding arrest warrants. But not all political leaders see the measures as entirely positive.

The decision to punish illegal entries more severely is being discussed controversially in the Bundestag. Critics fear that vulnerable groups, such as families and the sick, could suffer from such measures. Proponents argue that a stricter course is necessary to reduce Germany's “magnetic effect” and reduce the pressure on the asylum system.

The situation remains tense and the legal framework continues to be a hotly debated topic. The federal government is repeatedly confronted with court rulings that question its approach and strengthen the rights of asylum seekers. The debate about legally secure handling of these issues will continue in the coming weeks and months, although the pressure on the federal police to maintain and optimize their work will not abate.
