Bamberg receives modern forensic science laboratory: 5.6 million for security!
On June 18, 2025, a new, state-of-the-art forensic laboratory for the criminal police was opened in Bamberg. Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann was allowed to initiate this important step for the regional security architecture. The old laboratory could no longer withstand the increased demands of forensic science, which is why the new building with an investment of 5.6 million euros was urgently needed. The laboratory now offers first-class conditions for precise evidence collection and forensic analysis on over 160 square meters.
The entire complex is equipped with the latest technology and includes a large basic laboratory as well as two specialized examination laboratories with their own drying rooms. In addition, evidence and documentation rooms are located, which are essential for the proper processing and storage of evidence. Herrmann emphasizes the growing importance of forensic science, particularly with regard to DNA backups and crime reconstructions, in order to efficiently secure and evaluate evidence. As Bamberg meine Stadt reports, the equipment in the new laboratory is based on the most modern standards, which will significantly improve police work in Bavaria.
From planning to implementation
Planning for the project began in 2019, and the groundbreaking took place in September 2022. After 33 months of construction, the laboratory was now opened on schedule. The old laboratory rooms will be converted into office space, which will further strengthen the criminal police's personnel infrastructure. This not only promotes the effectiveness of the investigation, but also the cooperation of the police officers. A connecting bridge ensures that the new laboratories are directly connected to the main criminal police building, which shortens official routes and makes integration into everyday work easier.
The investment in the new forensic laboratory also aims to strengthen the regional security structure and thus increase citizens' feeling of security. The new laboratory will become a key factor in fighting crime in the region and will signal to citizens that their safety is a top priority. As [Wiesentbote](https://www.wiesentbote.de/2025/06/18/neues- criminaltechnological labor-der-criminal police-bamberg-eroeffnet/) reports, such investments in forensic technology are not only timely, they are also essential in order to be able to meet the growing challenges of crime.
