News for Bamberg: THW receives millions for vehicles and protection!
The investment and equipment offensive at the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) is continuing with great strides. How bamberg-meine-stadt.de reports, the budget committee of the German Bundestag decided two weeks ago to further strengthen the THW. This decision is part of a comprehensive plan to make civil and civil protection in Germany future-proof and to ensure crisis capability. This year, 577,000 euros are already being invested in new vehicles and equipment for the THW local branches in Bamberg, Forchheim and Kirchehrenbach.
As part of these measures, three new vehicles worth around 415,000 euros were purchased in Bamberg. In addition, around 380 new vehicles are to be delivered nationwide by the end of 2025, with an additional delivery of at least 50 vehicles for 2026. Personal protective equipment will not be neglected either: around 162,000 euros were invested in modern protective clothing for the Bamberg region, as part of a nationwide program with a total value of 24.5 million euros.
New momentum for the THW locations
There are also significant investments in THW in other regions. Bundestag member Christoph Schmid (SPD) announced that around 188,000 euros were invested in new equipment for the THW locations in Dillingen, Donauwörth and Nördlingen this year. Two vehicles worth around 100,000 euros were purchased for Dillingen. New uniforms worth over 88,000 euros are also available, distributed across the three local associations.
The nationwide procurement of clothing includes the equipment of 668 local associations. These central measures have so far provided many helpers with the necessary equipment that they urgently need in their operations. But local purchases by the local associations themselves also contribute to improved equipment.
An indispensable pillar of society
The THW, like that Federal Government emphasizes, is the central civil and disaster protection organization of the federal government. It helps with disasters and accidents worldwide, be it storm damage or power outages. The tasks are wide-ranging: from rescuing people and animals to securing buildings and providing logistical support to other aid organizations.
The THW has been carrying out missions on behalf of the federal government for more than 60 years. Volunteers search for and rescue earthquake victims, supply disaster areas with drinking water and help with reconstruction. The organization is represented in numerous local branches and regional offices, with around 88,000 volunteers, including more than 15,500 women.
With an increase in self-management funds by over 10 million euros in the 2025 budget, the THW will not only be better equipped, but will also receive more funds for new equipment, maintenance, spare parts as well as training and further education. This clearly shows how important THW is for our society, especially in crisis situations.
