Digital Day in Bayreuth: Seniors learn digital skills!
Something is happening in the digital world for seniors! On Tuesday, July 23rd, an exciting digital day will take place at the citizens' meeting center in Bayreuth, which is specifically aimed at the needs of older people. Responsible for the organization are the Evangelisches Bildungswerk Bayreuth, the Together-For-Eachother project of the Malteser Relief Service and the Senior Citizens' Office of the city of Bayreuth. This event aims to provide older citizens with essential digital skills so that they can participate in life independently. As Michaela Beuschel, the project manager, emphasizes, the competent use of digital media is essential for an active, self-determined life in today's society.
A colorful program is offered to seniors. Experts such as Gregor Biedermann, a trainer for consumer education and data protection, will give two lectures on this day. At 10 a.m. the topic is the electronic patient file and the question: “What will change for me?” Anyone who tunes in at 1:30 p.m. will receive helpful tips on secure online banking - a particularly important topic in the digital world. Under the motto “The best protection against criminals is you,” participants are shown how they can arm themselves.
Free support for older people
The future-oriented event is free, but registration is required. Anyone interested can contact the Malteser Hilfedienst e.V. directly, by phone on 0921 / 5075704 or by email at seniorenarbeit.oberfranken@malteser.org. Anyone who prefers to come by in person has the opportunity to receive individual advice from volunteer digital guides on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Efforts to promote digital skills for older people are not limited to local events. There are now 200 digital experience locations throughout Germany, which will further expand the network in the future. These new locations, funded by the DigitalPakt Alter, offer training courses ranging from smartphone courses to introductions to online banking. The final 50 experience locations were selected from 220 applications and benefit many older people aged 70 and over.
A Guide to Digital Skills
In order to provide support with digital education for older people, the Digital Opportunities Foundation has published a comprehensive guide. This is aimed at anyone who wants to support older people in using digital media competently. In addition to various tools for diagnosing the need for support, the guide contains practical instructions and examples of needs-based offers.
So we see: The digital world is accessible to everyone – including our seniors! It is often confidence in one's own abilities that makes access difficult for older people. Therefore, it is important not only to impart knowledge, but also to strengthen self-confidence. Let us work together to ensure that this valuable generation is not only informed, but can also use the Internet safely.
