Further training for reading sponsors: Strengthening children in reading together!

On November 13th, the Berchtesgadener Land volunteer agency is organizing an important training course for reading mentors who work in primary schools in the district. How bgland24 reports, the participants should be equipped with valuable knowledge and practical training materials. The training takes place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Lokwelt in Freilassing and is aimed at anyone who wants to support teachers in learning to read.

The training speakers, Miriam Schwarz and Ulrike Schmid, both experienced primary school teachers, will provide insights into the German curriculum. According to the PISA study, the reading skills of German students have deteriorated in recent years. Therefore, programs such as “FILBY Reading Training” and “Read Smarter” were created to promote students’ reading and language skills.

Practical methods of promoting reading

The training will introduce various methods that are already being used successfully in teaching. These include, among other things, tandem reading, choral reading and “stumbling block training”. Reading plays a central role in motivating children to pick up the book themselves and not just read it to themselves. The focus is on promoting reading fluency and reading accuracy so that children can read more comprehensibly.

The commitment to promoting reading should not be underestimated - both for children and for volunteers. The Reading Foundation has therefore set up a digital volunteer area where interested parties can find information and support. This initiative is supported by Thalia Bücher GmbH, a member of the foundation's board of trustees. In this way, reading sponsors can find out about various projects and campaigns, as in Reading Foundation is explained.

Looking for committed reading mentors

Volunteers can be active, among other things, in reading campaigns or in reading and media clubs. The foundation's interactive reading map offers over 900 contacts to initiatives and clubs where interested parties can get involved. “Reading aloud not only promotes reading skills, but also the bond between reading sponsors and children,” explains Sabine Uehlein, managing director of the Reading Foundation’s programs. The variety of projects provides valuable support in addressing the children's needs.

Ms. Barbara Müller from the Berchtesgadener Land Volunteer Agency is available to interested people to register and ask questions. So if you have a good knack for dealing with children and want to make them happy with books, you shouldn't miss this opportunity.
