30 years of Dachauer Moos: A lighthouse for nature and environmental protection!
An important anniversary was recently celebrated at the Umwelthaus Obergrashof: the Dachauer Moos e.V. association can proudly look back on its 30-year history. This local landscape association, which was founded in 1995, is not only committed to securing and developing the natural open space in the eastern Dachauer Moos, but has also made a name for itself as a flagship project in inter-municipal cooperation. The [Merkur](https://www.merkur.de/lokales/dachau/dachauer-rundschau/mehr-als-nur-moor-verein-dachauer-moos- Feiert-30-jaehriges-jubilaeum-93840486.html) reports that numerous guests from politics, administration and civil society attended the ceremony.
At the event, first chairman Peter Felbermeier spoke about the club's remarkable dynamic, which remains unbroken even after three decades. “We have achieved a lot, but there is still a lot to do,” he said. The focus of the activities is the renaturation of the Dachauer Moos, with the focus on increasing biodiversity and environmental education. Over 2,000 people took part in various events and tours last year, which underlines the association's great legal and social responsibility.
A role model in collaboration
The Dachauer Moos e.V. association has established itself as a sought-after partner for intermunicipal projects. Eight municipalities from three districts as well as the state capital Munich are currently members of the association. Through sustainable measures and projects such as the biodiversity project “New Life in the Dachauer Moos”, the association has not only gained regional importance, but now also serves as a model for comparable initiatives in other metropolitan regions. According to the Dachauer Moos Association, the association is driving forward important projects, such as the water development plan for regional waters.
A central point for the success story is the involvement of farmers and landowners, as managing director Robert Rossa emphasized. This cooperation promotes the rewetting of drained moor areas and shows how close the cooperation between different actors must be in order to work effectively and sustainably.
Education and challenges
Another notable feature of the association is the comprehensive educational offerings, which are particularly popular with schools. These initiatives help to convey the importance of nature and moor protection from a young age. Despite the positive developments, financing educational work remains a challenge as the association relies on donations and funding.
The ceremony also paid tribute to Fritz Nustede, the founding father of the association, whose commitment serves as a source of inspiration for current and future activities. The goal remains not only to promote biodiversity, but also to develop and implement a long-term biodiversity strategy that includes all relevant interest groups. As BUND notes, participatory approaches can increase support for such strategies and lead to practical implementation.
The Dachauer Moos e.V. association impressively shows what can be achieved through the collaboration of people, communities and institutions for environmental and nature conservation. Looking to the future, the association remains an indispensable player that faces the challenges of the Munich metropolitan region.
