Restrictions on the S 2: Important information for commuters today!
Today, July 17, 2025, Deutsche Bahn announced important timetable changes on the S 2 line between Dachau and Ostbahnhof. The reason for the adjustments is repair work on a signal, which will lead to outages every 10 minutes throughout the day. The departure times from Ostbahnhof to Dachau are particularly affected, including trains at 6:06 a.m., 6:46 a.m., 7:06 a.m., 7:46 a.m. and 8:06 a.m. These trains arrive late at the destination station, with arrival times varying between 06:41 and 08:41 news.de reported.
On the reverse route from Dachau to Ostbahnhof, trains at 07:19 a.m., 07:39 a.m., 08:19 a.m. and 08:39 a.m. are affected. Here, too, there will be significant delays. And that's not all: additional outages cannot be ruled out as the day progresses. In the event of delays of 20 minutes, Deutsche Bahn expects passengers to have the opportunity to change to another route, even on long-distance trains that do not require reservations.
Current traffic situation in Germany
The railway is not only affected by disruptions in Bavaria. There are also numerous disruptions in the rest of Germany that are affecting travelers. On the route from Cologne to Frankfurt Airport, a defective signal box is causing delays and cancellations that can last up to 45 minutes. In Lower Saxony, storm damage is responsible for further delays and cancellations in regional transport bahndampf.de.
The situation in Berlin, where storm damage is affecting train connections, is also tense. Several routes suffer from single-track operation, which also causes delays and cancellations. The connections between Hamburg and Berlin are particularly affected by this and further delays are expected.
Passenger rights and compensation
Deutsche Bahn has various regulations in place for those affected who rely on rail due to delays and cancellations. If there is a delay of 20 minutes at the starting station, the train connection will be canceled. This means that affected passengers with one ticket can change to another connection and additional ticket costs can be reimbursed. If you arrive more than 60 minutes late, you can even get up to 50% refund of the ticket price. If the trip is interrupted, passengers are well advised to assert their claims for a refund at the DB Travel Center bahn.de.
The refund requests are easy to handle as they can be submitted either via DB Dialog GmbH or at one of the DB travel centers. If you assert your claims quickly, you may be able to get taxi and hotel costs back up to a maximum of 120 euros.
