Luisa” aid project in Deggendorf: Safety for women in nightlife!

At a time when women often have unpleasant and even threatening experiences when going out, the “Luisa is here” project is becoming more and more of a topic. In Deggendorf, local clubs and the women's emergency call team led by Tanja Adler took a stand against sexual harassment and assault. “We have recognized the problem and are actively working to increase the safety of women,” emphasizes the owner of the Stage, Liesl and Chaochao clubs.

A central component of the project is the easy opportunity for women to seek help. If you feel pressured, you can simply ask the staff in the clubs “Is Luisa here?” place. This question acts as a signal for immediate support by having staff accompany the affected person to a safe space and provide protection while the next steps, such as arranging a route home, are clarified. In addition, the harassing man will be immediately and permanently banned from the club. Information about the initiative can also be found in the toilets of the participating locations, where stickers and posters provide information about the system.

Support and awareness in nightlife

The “Luisa is here!” campaign was originally launched by the Münster women's emergency hotline and is already being implemented in more than 100 cities and communities, including now in Deggendorf. Tanja Adler highlights that her clubs have improved lighting and visibility in the toilet area to prevent attacks. The response is positive; There are more women in the clubs again who feel safer.

An additional aspect is the collaboration with events such as “Summer Vibes” on June 28th, where women can ask about Luisa again. The Cultural Office has also invited all Danube Festival hosts to take advantage of training through the women's emergency hotline and thus create a safe environment.

Tips for women in nightlife

Mayor Renate Wasmeier draws attention to the telephone support options for women on the way home. “It is important that women always walk in pairs, charge their cell phones and do not hesitate to seek or offer help,” she said. The overall message is clear: Figure-hugging or skimpy clothing is not an invitation to assault. Rather, it is pleasing when women dress up to enjoy the nightlife.

The campaign meets an urgent need, as almost one in seven women in Germany is now affected by sexual violence - a trend that is increasing worryingly. The campaign “nightly. Celebrate better with safety” aims to counteract these grievances, which promotes targeted training and awareness-raising for staff in restaurants and clubs and thus takes preventive action against sexual harassment.

The measures and initiatives in Deggendorf are part of a larger movement aimed at increasing safety in nightlife. Even in places like Heidelberg, “Luisa is here!” is already firmly established and is supported by numerous student councils and catering operators. These approaches are intended to help create a safe environment for women and to provide everyone involved with the knowledge they need to act correctly in critical situations.
