Folk song summer festival: Happy evening in the Osterhofen city park!

The picturesque city park of Osterhofen will be lively again on Sunday, July 6th from 6 p.m. Then the city invites you to the popular folk song singing, which this year has the motto “With wit and humor”. This event is taking place for the third time and promises to captivate both locals and visitors to popular tunes. Program manager Otto Würgert has put together a varied program that is guaranteed to put you in a good mood. The musicians from the Osterhofen Music Association will support the singers and bring the stirring songs to life. If you like, you can pick up the song lyrics free of charge on site and join in with the cheerful sounds.

What else awaits visitors? Comfortable seating is available in the city park so that all participants can enjoy the atmospheric atmosphere. As in previous years, there will be numerous well-known songs again this year. Included are, among other things, classics such as “No Beautiful Land” and “Walking is the Miller's Pleasure”. This event is not only a welcome opportunity to sing together, but is also a kind of social gathering where old and new acquaintances meet.

A touch of tradition

What many people don't know: folk song singing has a long tradition in our region. Based on the first Advent singing, which became an official event this summer, such communal singing is becoming increasingly popular. A special summer version of Advent singing took place in the city park on June 25, 2023, which was accompanied by Otto Würgert and the Altenmarkt Asambläsers. Here too there was a selection of well-known songs and the lyrics were made available to those present. The cozy get-together was rounded off by the drinks sale from the Osterhofen water rescue service.

These events not only showcase the cultural richness of the area, but also bring together people who share a passion for folk songs. The folk song archive, which has an impressive collection of 10,705 song lyrics and 5,100 melodies from thirteen centuries, also offers a deep insight into the tradition of folk songs. These songs, which emerged from the population, cover a variety of topics that reflect everyday life - from solidarity to love to social challenges. Whether it's well-known hits or treasures that were thought to be forgotten, there's something for everyone in this archive.

For everyone who has always wanted to sing along: the Stadtpark Osterhofen opens its doors to experience the joy of singing together. There is no need to register - just come along and enjoy an unforgettable evening with friends and family!
