Importance of deacon ordination

Ordination as a deacon is an important step on the path to becoming a priest. The service of deacons includes assisting the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist and a special responsibility for people who are on the margins of society. Ultimately, ordination as a deacon is a necessary precursor to ordination as a priest, which should not be underestimated.

Candidates for the priesthood must meticulously make several promises, such as living life according to the example of Christ and helping the poor, the sick and those in need. A very crucial point is the promise of celibacy that applies to unmarried deacons. This is also one of the prerequisites for receiving the sacrament of holy orders, as stated on the pages of Diocese of Eichstätt is executed.
