Erich Lechner celebrates 90 years: A life for stones and social values!
On August 26, 2025, the community of Langenpreising was able to celebrate a very special occasion: Erich Lechner turned 90! The celebrant, who was born in Baustarring as the fourth of eight children, looks back on an eventful life. His path began at Schröding elementary school, where he laid the foundation for many successes.
He learned the stonemasonry trade in Freising before attending the Luisenschule in Munich from 1956 to 1959 and, after graduating as a master stonemason and stone sculptor, received a scholarship for his outstanding achievements. In 1962 he moved to Langenpreising, where he founded his own stonemason and stone sculpting business. Today, his son Erich Dieter runs the business in the second generation, supported by his wife Andrea and an experienced team. Like the website of Stonemason Lechner reveals, the individual design of natural stones and tiles is the heart of their offering. Personal advice plays an essential role, especially in sensitive areas such as the design of tombstones.
A life full of commitment
Erich Lechner is not only extremely active in stonemasonry, but also in social and sporting life. He has been married to Hermine Rettenbeck since 1964 and has two sons, Erich Dieter and Raimund. Unfortunately, the family had to mourn the loss of Raimund in November 2023. Erich Lechner is passionate about the community. He was a founding member of the tennis club and the stick shooters and played an important role in setting up these clubs.
His commitment doesn't stop there. For over 25 years he was active as Santa Claus for the footballers and also sponsored needy children in order to support their school education - an initiative that he brought to life through the organization “Step by Step”. His commitment and tireless work in numerous festival committees show how important it is to him to do good and live gratitude.
