Become a host family: exchange cultures with exchange students from all over the world!
The search for host families has reached a new high in Erding. From August onwards, the exchange organization Experiment will be on the hunt for families who are willing to take in 30 international exchange students. How Mercury reports, the students come from countries such as the USA, Italy, Estonia, Australia and Thailand and are between 14 and 18 years old. You will spend up to ten months in Germany while attending a local school.
The young people come to the Erding district not only as students, but also as cultural ambassadors. During their stay, they should experience German culture up close and at the same time promote exchanges with their host families. Among the prospective exchange students is 16-year-old Grete from Estonia, who wants an open and warm host family. Her compatriot Teele, 15 years old, describes herself as conscientious and adventurous. Interested in sports and German, she also hopes for an exciting time in Germany.
Looking for host families
All interested families can apply to become a host family, regardless of whether they are single parents, patchwork or rainbow families - what is most important is the joy of cultural exchange and an open heart for a guest. Experiment also supports families with a monthly household subsidy. They receive support from the organization itself and a volunteer contact person throughout their entire stay.
Further information is available on the Experiment website experiment-ev.de to find. The digital information evening, which will take place on Wednesday, July 9th at 8 p.m., deserves special attention. Interested families can learn more about the program and ask questions here.
Exchange programs at a glance
International exchange programs are very popular and are a central part of cultural globalization. Every year, around 3,000 young people from abroad spend half or a full school year in Germany. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education Around 2,200 of these exchange students are placed by organizations that are dedicated to intercultural exchange.
Germany itself sends around 20,000 students abroad every year, with a fifth being looked after by members of the working group of non-profit youth exchange organizations (AJA). The AJA is a community of organizations that has been active since 1993 and is committed to promoting intercultural learning. Their programs enable students to discover new hobbies, share their own culture and make friends around the world.
