Robbery at a bakery in Erlangen: 21-year-old arrested!
On Thursday morning, June 12, 2025, a raid on a bakery in Erlangen caused a stir. At approximately 6:45 a.m., the perpetrator entered the bakery on Luitpoldstrasse and began a short conversation with the employee. What followed was disturbing: the unknown man pulled out a knife and threatened the employee, demanding cash. But the money remained safe - the employee didn't hand over anything, and the perpetrator then fled towards Drausnickstrasse. The police were immediately alerted and immediately initiated searches, which quickly had an effect. A 21-year-old suspect was arrested on Helene-Richter-Straße Franconian day reported.
The investigation was taken over by the Erlangen criminal police, who also connected another incident on the same day. Shortly after the attack, a break-in was reported at a restaurant on Friedrichstrasse. The perpetrator had forced his way into the building and stolen an electronic device. Evidence from the crime confirmed the suspicion against the 21-year-old, who had already been arrested. He is now on trial for attempted extortion and particularly serious theft, and a detention order has been issued. The suspect is being accommodated in a specialist clinic, reports Press portal.
Increasing violent crime in focus
While the events in Erlangen are making headlines, they are also taking a look at the general security situation in Germany. The current figures from the Police crime statistics 2024 show that violent crime increased by 1.5%. With 217,277 registered cases, the highest level since 2007 was reached. Although overall crime has fallen slightly over the last year, the increase in violence and knife attacks in particular remains worrying. In Germany, 29,014 knife attacks were recorded, 54.3% of which are recorded as violent crime.
There has also been a noticeable increase in the number of children and young people suspected of crimes, which is reigniting the debate about prevention and education in society. Given these alarming developments, it is vital that both the police and the public work closely together to tackle crime and ensure safety in our cities.
