The folk music world mourns: Michael Eberwein has died!

In the heart of Bavaria, the folk music scene has lost one of its best-known representatives. Michael Eberwein, the leader of the renowned Dellnhauser musicians, died on Sunday night at the age of 62, after a long and difficult illness. His death came just after his 62nd birthday, and the news has caused great sadness in the region. tz.de reports that ...

Eberwein was born in Dellnhausen near Au in 1962 and was surrounded by music from an early age. His musical roots go back to his grandfather and father, both of whom were active in folk music. At the age of 16, he began his career as a trumpeter with the Dellnhauser Musikanten, which his father founded in 1979. Sueddeutsche reports that ...

A life for music

In 1990, Eberwein took over the management of the Dellnhauser Musikanten and led the group to over 200 recorded titles on Bayerischer Rundfunk and 24 published recordings. Under his leadership, the band's repertoire grew to around 300 handwritten pieces of folk music. Eberwein was instrumental in ensuring that the Dellnhauser musicians achieved high recognition not only in Germany but also internationally - their performances took them to Austria, Italy, France, Sweden, Indonesia, Japan, China, India and the USA, among others.

As a passionate musician, Eberwein was not only active for the Dellnhauser musicians. In 2004 he founded the Dellnhauser Folk Music Festival, which has since attracted around 25,000 visitors every year. This year the festival had to be canceled due to the current circumstances, which deeply saddens fans of folk music. In addition, Eberwein was also politically active: He ran for the CSU as mayor of Au in 2002 and was a member of the market council from 2002 to 2008.

Recognition and legacy

Michael Eberwein received numerous awards for his services, including the Freising District Culture Prize and the Federal Cross of Merit. He was particularly proud of the Bavarian Culture Prize, which he received in 2019. His work in the city of Freising as head of the citizens' office and election officer should also not be forgotten. Eberwein leaves behind his wife Gerti and their two sons Michael and Maximilian, as well as a huge fan base that was always loyal to him during his lifetime and now misses him deeply.

On May 25th, Eberwein appeared together with the Dellnhauser Musikanten in the television program “Wirtshausmusikanten” on Bavarian television, leaving a lasting impression on the hearts of many music lovers. His legacy will continue to live on through the music and memories of his many stage performances.
