This has far -reaching consequences for the flow of traffic in the region, because all diversions lead through the city. The reason for the diversion is clear: The State Building Office Passau has launched measures that should not only upgrade traffic safety, but also traffic quality at the hub of the federal road 12. The focus is on the conversion of the confluence of state road 2132 into the B12, which will act as a junction in the future. The work for bypass is already underway and are expected to continue until May 2025. During this time, the municipal road at the McDonald’s is used as a construction site bypass, which should be a relief, especially for the fluid traffic on the heavily loaded B12, as stbapa.bayern.de.

Details of the conversion measure

The upcoming conversion stipulates that the B12 is lowered in this area. A roundabout is also planned, which is built over the B12 with connection ramps. As part of the project, a public field and forest path is also created under the main road, including a retaining wall and a supporting structure both north and south of the B12. The entire renovation campaign is expected to be used by 2027, which means that residents and road users still have to adjust to a longer phase of diversions and construction sites.

The preparations are part of the comprehensive federal traffic route plan (BVWP) 2030, which is based on around 2,000 projects. These projects are evaluated according to their importance for future traffic and their advantages and disadvantages.
