Freyung-Grafenau: Corona numbers are stagnating – Nimbus variant in view!

The Corona situation in Germany remains stable on June 24, 2025. In Bavaria, the current figures show that the incidence remains low. No new infections were registered in the Freyung-Grafenau district that day, which is a positive sign for the region. The 7-day incidence is only 1.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. A total of 6,874,245 people have been infected with the virus in Bavaria so far news.de reported.

The hospital landscape also looks reassuring: of a total of 8 intensive care beds in the district, only 6 are occupied, while no COVID patients need to be treated in the intensive care units. This is another bright spot in the overall positive development of the situation. The numbers are also good in a nationwide comparison. Only 122 new infections were registered across Germany on June 24th, and the 7-day incidence is 0.8 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Overview of the vaccination rate and new variants

The vaccination campaign is also showing positive results: around 76.3% of the German population is basic immunized, which corresponds to a total of 63,493,268 people. 77.9% have received at least one vaccination, while over 188 million vaccine doses have already been administered. Nevertheless, the new Corona variant Nimbus, which has been classified as a “variant under observation” since January 2025, remains an issue. So far there is no evidence of more severe disease progression, but developments should continue to be monitored closely.

When it comes to the age groups of people who tested positive in Bavaria, a colorful picture emerges: Most cases affect the 15-34 age group, followed by the 35-59 year olds. It is particularly important that the lower age groups, i.e. children and adolescents, tend to have lower case numbers compared to other age groups.

Situation in other federal states

A look at Berlin shows both challenges and progress. On that day, 1,470,400 people were infected with COVID-19 in the capital. Here the 7-day incidence is 1.4 per 100,000 inhabitants, which is slightly higher compared to Bavaria. The vaccination rate in Berlin is 79%, although vaccination coverage is also making steady progress here, as shown on corona-in-zahlen.de is shown.

Overall, the utilization of intensive care beds in Germany is at a relatively low level, according to Statista. The latest reports show several COVID patients in intensive care units. As of mid-November 2022, the proportion of COVID patients in intensive care beds was 0%, which reflects the easing of the situation in hospitals. The burden on the health system can therefore be classified as low. Detailed statistics on utilization can be found at statista.com.

With these developments, one could say that we are moving into a hopeful phase, even if the pandemic remains a serious issue. The low number of cases and the progress in the vaccination campaign give hope that normality will slowly return. However, it remains crucial not to lose vigilance in order to identify further developments at an early stage and be able to react to them.
