Trouble over new cycle path: Emmeringen residents threaten to sue!

In Fürstenfeldbruck, the new protective strip on Emmeringer Straße has been causing quite a stir since its introduction. The focus of the discussion is primarily on the residents, who are very annoyed by the lack of communication and the current traffic situation. Markus Christ in particular, a resident, is even planning to file a class action lawsuit to take action against the supposed restrictions on stopping in front of their houses. How Mercury According to reports, this approximately 1.5 kilometer long protective strip was set up after the town's thoroughfare was closed for months.

Residents fear that they will no longer have parking options in front of their houses in the future. The district office explains that holding is still permitted, but many people do not understand this. The lawsuit, which is scheduled to be filed in January 2024, could well be successful because the required width of the sidewalk and cycle path was not maintained. An agreement following a joint on-site visit with the police and the ADFC led to the signposted regulations being adjusted, but the misleading ban on stopping remains a major point of contention.

New traffic regulations and safety aspects

On September 12, 2025, the cycle protection strip on the district road FFB 17 from the junction with the B2 towards Kirchplatz in Emmering was marked. The starting point for this measure was citizen complaints about the narrowness of the previous shared cycle path and sidewalk. The District Office FFB has adapted the signage to the new traffic regulations after the old blue signs were removed on September 11, 2025. An important step, because at the same time the obligation to use the shared footpath and cycle path in the direction of Emmering was lifted.

Cyclists now have a choice: either they use the new protective lane, where they can ride at their own pace, or they use the sidewalk, which is still permitted. In this case, however, they must pay particular attention to pedestrians and maintain a moderate speed. Stopping on the protective strip is strictly prohibited, and violations can result in fines starting at 80 euros.

Challenges for cyclists and residents

Despite the new regulations, the situation remains tense. The district office stipulates that stopping to open entrance gates is still permitted, but additional signs are required. In order to ensure road safety, it is important that motor vehicles only drive on the protective lane when absolutely necessary, without endangering or hindering cyclists.

Finally, it remains to be hoped that both sides – residents and cyclists – can accept the new regulations and a compromise acceptable to everyone can be found. How the situation will develop remains to be seen, especially in view of the announced lawsuit, which could potentially have far-reaching consequences.
