Puchheim is flourishing: Klimanetz wins environmental award and plans climate forest!

Something is happening in Puchheim with regard to climate protection! On November 4, 2025, the Puchheim climate network was awarded the main prize of the Climate and Environment Prize. This initiative, launched in 2023, developed from an exchange during a Fridays for Future demo in Munich in 2019. Ronald van Hoek, a committed climate activist and part of the climate network, puts it succinctly: “The climate cannot be changed in one fell swoop.”

The climate network is actively committed to winning over the citizens of Puchheim for climate protection measures. Local companies and clubs have already joined in to work together to reduce CO₂ emissions. Last year, a total of 52 tons of CO₂ were saved through small changes. This shows that even small steps can be taken to make a big difference.

Climate forest for the future

A particularly ambitious project of the group is the planning of a climate forest, which is to be created in spring 2026. These trees will act as CO₂ storage and should not only benefit the environment but also future generations. There are various ways to get involved in this project. Tree planting campaigns and donations are very welcome, as each tree only costs 10 euros. The Community Foundation for the FFB District has set up a donation account through which all interested Puchheim residents can offer their support. Donations of up to 300 euros can also be claimed for tax purposes, which makes the campaign more attractive for many.

Another exciting aspect of the initiative is the promotion of technical climate protection examples. Through excursions, citizens can view modern technologies such as heat pumps and be inspired by how they can contribute to climate protection. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the options available to us in everyday life to reduce CO₂ emissions.

Together for climate protection

The Puchheim climate network brings together climate-active citizens, clubs, schools, kindergartens and companies. The initiative is being pushed forward under the patronage of Norbert Seidl, the mayor of Puchheim. The aim is to create a livable and lovable environment for future generations. The group also repeatedly calls on all citizens, associations and companies in the region to actively participate in the projects and to contribute their ideas and suggestions. Because only together can we overcome the challenges of climate change and achieve sustainable change.

It remains to be seen what further steps the climate network will take in the coming months. But one thing is certain: climate protection is very important in Puchheim, and everyone can be a part of it! Further information and details about the various actions of the climate network can be found on the official website, which offers the opportunity to take part in the different projects: Puchheim climate network.

At a time when the climate is more in focus than ever before, Puchheim has sent an important signal with its initiative. The Climate and Environment Prize, which is endowed with 2,500 euros, is invested in the implementation of the climate forest and is therefore not only an award, but also an encouragement for everyone who is committed to climate protection. The Puchheim climate network impressively proves that even small places can achieve big things. The Süddeutsche Zeitung also reported on these positive developments and the great work being done on site.
