Green alpine crossing: Sustainably hike from Garmisch to Sterzing!

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Deutschland - The Alps themselves are a dream. With a new hiking route, the "green Alpine crossing", this dream is now being lifted to a whole new level. The tour, which leads from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Sterzing in South Tyrol, not only offers breathtaking nature, but also relies on sustainability. This concept was developed by Nina Ruhland, the founder of mountain encounters, who has been committed to environmentally friendly hiking tours for years. Here the environmental idea is clearly put in the foreground. As reported world, the luggage transport was dispensed with; The tourists wear their luggage themselves.

The "Green Alpine crossing" lasts a total of eight days and costs 1699 euros per person. The focus on really sustainable practices is unmistakable: there are no unnecessary transfers, and where indispensable transfers are necessary, these are compensated for CO₂. For everyone who arrives by train, there is a discount that not only saves money, but also minimizes the ecological footprint.

a holistic experience

The special thing about this hike is the intensive care that the team of mountain encounters together with the partner mountain school hiking experience offers. In small groups of 6 to 10 people, not only security, but also personal contact with the guides is preserved. Part of the preparation is a live webinar via zoom to optimally prepare the hikers for the challenges. This also includes information about the current situation of the Alps in the climate crisis - a topic that is built into the whole tour. In this way, awareness of environmentally friendly life is promoted, such as mountain encounters.

The hikers can enjoy the natural beauties of the Alps to the fullest on little paths. The participants will spend the night in huts, alpine pastures and sustainable hotels, which mostly offer vegetarian and vegan food. Here you can feel the difference to conventional offers, since the catering in the Reintalangerhütte, for example, includes a chickpea ds instead of the traditional pork knuckle.

The tour in detail

The tour runs over several stations that include sporting challenges. Already on the first day it goes to the Reintalangerhütte, followed by other exciting stages that have differences in altitude of up to 1300 meters. The hikers are taken to the Schmirntal by taxi or to the Sellraintal to shorten the tour and still enjoy the breathtaking environment. Several options are available for the way back, including a train connection from Sterzing back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Munich.
