New location, new happiness: Christmas market moves to the Kurpark!

Something exciting is happening in Garmisch-Partenkirchen! The popular Christmas market will take place in the Michael-Ende-Kurpark for the first time in 2025. After more than 25 years at Richard-Strauss-Platz, the organizers, Gabi Hoffmann and Martin Pirner from the Garmischer Zentrum advertising association, are moving location. “This is a pilot test,” they emphasize. The market is open from November 21st to January 4th, which ensures a longer runtime that the stand operators are also looking forward to.

What can visitors expect? In addition to the traditional highlights such as mulled wine, gingerbread and handmade gifts, the 15 by 20 meter ice surface in the spa gardens is a real highlight. Not only ice skating will be possible here, but also curling. SC Riessersee has agreed to operate this area and even rent it out for Christmas parties and school classes. This promises a great festive atmosphere!

A celebration of traditions and innovations

Despite the new location, some traditions remain. The popular elements such as the boot campaign, the wishing tree as well as musical performances and face painting are also carried out in the spa park. After the holidays, atmospheric concerts with artists such as Fenzl, Gamskult and Lenze and de Buam attract visitors. The uniform lighting of the spa park is intended to illuminate the entrance, creating a particularly festive atmosphere.

The decision to move the market to the spa park also brings with it safety advantages. No bollards or barriers are needed at this new location, which benefits everyone involved. The Hüttenzauber will also take place in Partenkirchen from December 27th to January 4th, with stalls and events on the church square. Another attraction is the nativity trail on Ludwigstrasse, which is designed between the first Advent and Epiphany.

Cultural highlights at Christmas time

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is not only known for its Christmas market. The city offers numerous romantic Christmas markets and traditional celebrations in the surrounding mountains. Here, visitors can stroll through the festively lit streets and experience the Krampus Run, an old tradition that gives every festival a special spice. The atmosphere is lively, with music and the smell of local delicacies, as was the case with the markets at Richard-Strauss-Platz, which offered a picturesque view of the mountain scenery, as germany.travel describes.

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen everyone gets their money's worth, whether strolling through the Christmas market or enjoying the cuisine and traditions. The anticipation of Christmas grows with each passing day and the first lights are already lighting up the city!
