Insolvency administrator Andreas Schenk found that the liabilities exceeded the assets, which led to the decision. The station stopped broadcasting via DAB+ and FM at the end of July 2025 and was only active as a web radio with music from September 2025. The financial difficulties include the extremely expensive use of the frequency: the monthly costs for the weak VHF frequency amounted to just under 10,000 euros. Another low blow came in July 2025, when seven permanent employees were laid off. A representative of the Bavarian Journalists' Association expressed concern about the impending loss of media diversity in the Upper Franconia region.

The bankruptcy of Extra-Radio is no coincidence; it is the result of long-standing economic challenges.
