Joyn starts with 14 local channels - free TV for Bavaria!

Bayern, Deutschland - joyn, the streaming service of ProSiebenSat.1, has expanded its program and now offers 14 local and regional transmitters free of charge. These new additions can now be called up for the users and cover a wide range of regional content. The new broadcasters include Allgäu.tv, Augsburg.tv, Franconia Television, Munich.tv and many others who specialize in reporting from their respective regions. The expansion is part of a cooperation with the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM) and is marketed by Seven. One Media.

Katharina Frömsdorf, CEO von Joyn, expressed optimistic about the continuous expansion of the free live TV offer. This should not only expand the user base, but also strengthen Joyn's position as a provider of local content in Bavaria. Dr. Thorsten Schmiege, President of the BLM, also gave positive feedback on the availability of the local TV channels on the platform. This new offer could be seen in response to previous conflicts between Joyn and the public broadcaster ARD and ZDF, in which ProSiebenSat.1 had used content without consent.

conflicts and legal steps

Before the current program change, there were legal disputes. ProSiebenSat.1 had integrated the content of ARD and ZDF in Joyn, which led to the threat of complaints. After these legal steps, the company removed the controversial content, but remains in his view that the use was legitimate. The current expansion could be a new beginning for the relationship between Joyn and other broadcasters, as it focuses on local content.

streaming services like Joyn not only benefit from his own content, but increasingly also from licensed content. This strategy is a widespread trend in the industry, in which streaming providers try to offer an extensive portfolio of content. The streaming market has changed a lot in recent years, and providers such as Disney+ rely on a wide range of content, including titles by Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar, to increase their number of subscribers. Nevertheless, users often struggle to keep an overview of the offer, since the rights to content often change and individual titles are often only temporarily available.

With the new cooperation and regional channels, Joyn contributes to the diversity in the streaming market and shows that locally oriented content also plays an important role in the media landscape. Many streaming providers, including industrial companies such as Paramount and HBO, develop their own platforms to offer their content directly instead of only making them available to other providers. These developments reflect the dynamic nature of the streaming market and the changing needs of the audience.
