Christian Eberle is filming the epic adventure Blades of Bavaria” in the Allgäu
Christian Eberle, a creative talent from Ostallgäu, is currently in the middle of exciting filming for his new film “Blades of Bavaria”. As a producer, screenwriter, director and cameraman, he combines various roles and talents in this fantasy adventure. The fact that in his previous projects he often made films that were only ten minutes long will change with this ambitious project. “I take my time and don’t rush into things,” emphasizes Eberle. In fact, he is planning a longer production period to do justice to the complex story, which is based on the classic epic “The Three Musketeers”.
Eberle's film process is divided into three essential phases: writing the script, filming and editing the film. While the first two phases involve a lot of effort, Eberle describes the editing phase as the “most beautiful and relaxing time” of the entire process. However, filming is currently on hold as the main actress, Sandra Wentland, is staying in New Zealand. Eberle has already considered some suitable filming locations in the picturesque Allgäu Alps, with Alpe Beichelstein and the Freyberg-Eisenberg castle ruins being particularly promising.
A look behind the scenes
Eberle has put together a strong team for “Blades of Bavaria”, including leading actors such as Lukas Schmieden, Rüdiger Wojewoda, Robert Geiger and the talented Sandra Wentland. He also receives support from Wolfgang Hawel, who is responsible for lighting and sound, and the director Roberto Martinez, with whom Eberle maintains a close friendship. This team not only works together creatively, but also brings a motivation and passion that drives the entire production forward.
Eberle has decided to finance the projects largely himself, although he plans to do most of the filming for free. Costumes and props are cleverly sourced from thrift stores, with his wife, Katja Vartiainen, having a knack for creative solutions. Around 20 days of filming are planned, with filming continuing in May 2026. The film is expected to be released in autumn 2024. Eberle is optimistic and would like to make the work accessible in one of the original filming locations, perhaps in an old barn, where the audience can experience the culinary and cultural treasures of the Allgäu.
Exceptional content
The plot of “Blades of Bavaria” revolves around the characters Robert von Falkenstein, Eldara, Ulf and Valeria, who have to live in the shadow of their former greatness after the king dies. The mysterious Yoralf unravels a divinely inspired mission that has to do with the Worldbringer - a shard of the First Light and an artifact of royal dignity. Eberle and his team are working to underline the importance of ensuring that this world bringer must not fall into the wrong hands.
The German film industry also sees itself undergoing change, as plans to reform film funding were presented in February 2024 and are due to come into force in 2025. Despite a decline in active film productions in recent years, interest in German film projects remains high. In 2023, around a quarter of the films shown on the German cinema market were domestic productions. These also include high-flyers such as the animated film “High-flyers – The Secret of the Great Jewel”, which has established itself as the export hit of the year and recorded high visitor numbers.
Eberle and his team now have to face the challenges of filming. Even if external factors such as the weather are sometimes a hindrance, the motivation remains unbroken. “There’s something going on,” says Eberle, looking optimistically into the future. The audience can be excited!
