Colorful birds in the nursing home: art exhibition promotes encounters!

In Sickershausen, a colorful art exhibition about the art of painting can be admired in the KITZINGERLAND nursing home in November. Under the title “Let Love Rain” the artist Walter Steinbeck presents his impressive collection, which primarily consists of the popular picture series “Birds”. The opening will take place today, October 31, 2025, for invited guests, and the exhibition itself will open its doors from November 1 to 30, 2025, daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with free admission. What's special: You don't need to register in advance.

Steinbeck, who has pursued his passion for painting for 50 years and has created more than 70 motifs from his “Birds” series, initially had reservations about the idea of visiting an exhibition in a nursing home. But his perspective quickly changed. The aim of the exhibition is to establish the nursing home not only as a place to live, but also as a meeting place and to break down inhibitions. “Art can build a bridge,” says the artist and emphasizes that older people can also find a lot of joy in creativity.

Art as therapy

Art and especially art therapy are playing an increasingly important role in care. This form of therapy, which includes various areas such as painting and music, is used in retirement homes and care facilities to support the mental and physical health of residents. People with dementia particularly benefit from creative activities. These not only improve your cognitive functions, but also increase your quality of life and promote social contacts.

There are currently 78 residents living in KITZINGERLAND who are looked after by over 100 employees. The shortage of skilled workers is an ongoing issue in nursing, especially since the abolition of community service. Walter Steinbeck suggests that older people could also spend time in the nursing home and take advantage of the activities on offer. Schools are also invited to visit the exhibition in order to interest young people in careers in nursing.

Promote creativity

There will be a special vernissage and a painting workshop for the residents of the house during the exhibition to encourage the older generation's creative streak. Perhaps this initiative can also contribute to a positive change in the shortage of skilled workers by increasing interest in nursing professions.

Mainfranken.news emphasizes that Steinbeck's images are intended to convey joy and positive emotions, especially for people with dementia. Art, history teaches us, is not just a form of expression – it is also a way to increase well-being and build bridges between generations.

So if you have the opportunity to visit the KITZINGERLAND nursing home, you should definitely not miss this impressive art exhibition. You can expect not only art in the traditional sense, but also a moving experience that has the potential to touch hearts.
