Copper robbery in the solar park: 52 kilometers of cables stolen in Martinsheim!
The night from Thursday, October 2nd to Friday, October 3rd will probably remain in the memory of the citizens of Kitzingen for a long time, and for a very unpleasant reason. During this period, unknown persons forcibly gained access to a solar park in Martinsheim and stole up to 52 kilometers of copper cable. The damage to the loot is estimated at a five-figure amount, while the property damage caused by the perpetrators' reckless activities is in the lower six-figure range. The Würzburg criminal police have started the investigation and are asking for the public's help.
Leon Schmidt from the criminal police explains: “We are looking for witnesses who noticed conspicuous people or suspicious vehicles in Martinsheim at night.” Every clue can be crucial; Citizens are asked to call 0931/4571732 with relevant information. Such thefts are not only a challenge for the detectives, but also for the operators of the solar system, who are now faced with enormous losses.
The dimension of theft
The deeds show a worrying pattern. In Martinsheim, there are several thousand meters of copper cables, which were lost with a certain skill and obviously well thought -out planning. It is not the first time that such incidents are registered in solar parks. Similar thefts, such as currently from Calvörde in the Börde district, have the alarm bells ring. 130 kilometers of cables were even stolen there, which caused around 130,000 euros in damage. It seems as if copper is currently very popular with criminals, and the solar systems are becoming more and more a target.
The situation is particularly dramatic in Martinsheim, as the perpetrators not only cut off the cables, but also damaged large parts of the infrastructure. This approach has revealed details that could indicate a well-organized group, as shown by a similar incident in Saxony-Anhalt, which was also deliberate.
What to do?
The responsible authorities are on alert. The Würzburg criminal police emphasize how important every tip from the public is. Demand for copper remains high and risks for investors and operators are increasing. “We need the citizens’ help,” Schmidt continues to appeal, “to prevent such incidents in the future.”
The challenge for the police is not only to solve these crimes, but also to prevent future thefts. If you saw anything suspicious that night, don't hesitate to get in touch. Ultimately, we all care about protecting our communities and their renewable energy initiatives.
