Large planting campaign in Frammersbach: trees for a green future!
In Frammersbach it's all about the orchards - a true piece of nature that not only enriches the local flora and fauna, but is also important for the community. At a recent citizens' meeting, Mayor Christian Holzemer presented the latest developments on the Aschenmaul orchard, which is looked after by the municipality and the Spessart Nature Park. The assembly clearly showed how children and the forest kindergarten team are already actively involved by collecting fruit and squeezing their own juice. A great introduction to the world of nature! Mainpost reports that property transactions were already concluded in the summer and permission for use has been granted by the owners - something is definitely up!
Another highlight of the session was mapping the numerous fruit trees growing in the meadow. But the focus is not just on the trees: various ant colonies, including protected species, were also recorded and marked. Piles of dead wood, which provide valuable habitat for insects and small animals, also ensure a healthy ecosystem. Particularly gratifying, after a funding stop in the spring, funds have finally been released for the care of the orchard, which underlines the importance of care and irrigation.
Volunteering and environmental education
The focus is also on efforts to strengthen volunteerism: Werner Friedel, a volunteer in care, provided information about the upcoming removal of spruce trees by a company. There is also a need for action on the riding grass, which has to be mown in order to push it back - this measure needs to be repeated regularly in order to maintain the rhythm of nature.
An important date is approaching: a young tree planting campaign is planned for Friday, November 7th, and support from citizens is urgently requested. If you have any questions, you can contact us on 09355 416.
Orchards as a lively learning place
The importance of orchards extends beyond mere nature conservation: environmental protection and education are very important here. Environmental education programs have been established since the 1990s and promote responsible use of the environment and natural resources. This is done through the concept of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Interactive teaching methods encourage participants to actively learn and engage with topics such as climate protection and biodiversity. Knowledge about orchards is imparted and skills are promoted that are important for planning and action.
Creating teaching programs on orchards helps to create awareness of this valuable ecosystem. Training for orchard educators has been offered since 2014 to sensitize students and adults to the biotope. A “green classroom” is even being set up here, which moves the learning location outside and gives space for players and activities in the orchards. Materials on this are available on the websites of BUND Niedersachsen and Streuobst-Pädagogen e.V.
In summary, it can be said that the orchards in Frammersbach are not only a place for relaxation, but also make a valuable contribution to environmental education. They combine care and conservation with valuable learning opportunities for the entire community. The upcoming activities provide a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get actively involved!
