Musical theater about the search for love in the digital age!
The Landestheater Schwaben offers a joyful journey of discovery into the world of love with its new musical theater piece “In Search of Happiness”. In a colorful mix of 17 episodes, the multifaceted reality of finding a partner, relationships and love is illuminated. Director Sarah Kohrs takes the audience through the emotional highs and lows of interpersonal relationships in an entertaining way.
The production brings the longing for love and belonging to the stage, with the actors playing over 50 roles and holding a mirror up to the audience. The challenge of finding a partner is often discussed, especially with regard to getting older, which offers several characters in the play new perspectives. The live music from the “Lonely Hearts Club Band” also ensures an unforgettable evening.
Online Dating: A Double-Edged Sword
At a time when over 50% of sexually mature people in Germany have already experimented with online dating services, it is clear that, on the one hand, such platforms are very popular - 53% of Internet users have already used them. On the other hand, there are also dark sides that burden many users. A Forsa survey commissioned by KKH reveals that 59% of respondents between the ages of 18 and 60 reported emotional exhaustion and frustration, indicating the stressful nature of digital dating.
The appeal of online dating is often tempered by an excess of possible partners. 30% of users experience stress from the seemingly endless choice, while 54% report not receiving replies to messages or even being “ghosted.” Women in particular often feel overwhelmed by men's superficiality and predominantly sexual interest.
Developments in the dating market
But where does this journey lead? Forecasts indicate that sales of dating platforms in Germany could grow to over 300 million euros annually in the next two years, with dating as the highest-earning segment. According to Statista, the popularity of apps like Tinder continues unabated; the app was responsible for over 66 million downloads worldwide in 2024. Nevertheless, companies in the online dating sector are struggling with a declining number of paying subscribers and the question of how they can retain users over the long term.
Away from technical possibilities and market analysis, the piece “In Search of Happiness” powerfully shows that real human connections and relationships are much more complex than a simple swipe to the right or left. The next performance will take place on October 29th, followed by further dates in November and on New Year's Eve - a wonderful opportunity to search for happiness yourself and perhaps find true love.
