Mountain bikers in Miesbach fight back: Strict 1.5 meter rule threatens!

A hot iron is currently being forged for the mountain bike community in the Miesbach district. The proposed regulation that would ban mountain biking on trails less than 1.5 meters wide is causing a lot of excitement. The German Initiative Mountain Bike (DIMB) is defending itself against these measures and is examining legal steps Mercury reported.

The cycling scene is outraged by the planned new designation of landscape protection areas (LSG), which is related to the new regulation. There is anger, especially after the originally planned exceptions for 35 routes were canceled. The district office confirms that these exceptions are legally untenable, which is the final straw.

Mountain bikers object

In the first round of interpretation, around 300 objections were received from mountain bikers - a clear expression of the community's dissatisfaction. According to the DIMB, a blanket closure not only has negative consequences for cyclists' recovery, but could also harm the local economy. After all, many mountain bikers are also enthusiastic nature lovers who visit and consume the region.

The DIMB also appeals to maintain the tried and tested regulation of the Bavarian Nature Conservation Act in order to promote a balance between nature conservation and leisure activities. The legal anchoring of the 1.5 meter rule is being questioned. The Environment Committee, however, clearly spoke out in favor of the regulation at its last meeting.

Future of mountain bikers in the district

In order to meet the needs of mountain bikers, the Mountain Bike Steering Group plans to designate additional official trails. The district council will decide in the near future which of the three variants - zoning, no closure or the 1.5 meter closure - will go into the second interpretation. This will show whether the interests of mountain bikers will be heard or whether the new regulations will actually be enforced.

In neighboring regions, such as the Augsburg Nature Park, specific guidelines already apply that promote cycling in harmony with nature conservation and ensure that nature does not suffer. Cycling is only permitted on suitable paths, while motorized surprises such as e-quads are excluded. The legal framework provides a solid basis for how Augsburg district explained.

It remains to be seen what decision the district council will make and how the mountain bikers will react to it. A good hand is required, not only from politicians, but also from the community that wants to enjoy nature without suffering from it.
