DJK-TSV Stadtprozelten celebrates 70 years of sporting success and community!
The sporting events in Stadtprozelten will experience a special highlight next weekend, as the DJK-TSV Stadtprozelten is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Chairman Norbert Umscheid emphasizes the close connection to the Catholic parish, which was promoted by Pastor Elmar Happ in the 50s and 60s. Happ was a true football enthusiast whose vision was to found a club with a focus on youth work, even though there were already football clubs in the area. The DJK Brasselburg was founded in 1956, named after a former hospital that served as a Catholic children's and youth home. The first games took place on a meadow and the men's team quickly made a name for itself by being promoted from the C class to the district league.
But ups and downs are part of sport. In the early 70s the team had to be relegated to the A class due to a lack of personnel. But in 1975 the turning point came: DJK Brasselburg merged with TSV, which had been founded in 1922, and so the DJK-TSV Stadtprozelten was created. This merger brought with it both successes and challenges. In recent years the club has moved through various leagues, fought against setbacks and finally found its place in the district league.
A look into history
The DJK, which stands for German Youth Power, plays an important role in German sport. This name goes back to the tradition of the sports movement of the late 19th century. The term “youth power” symbolizes the positive qualities of youth and has also been often used outside of sport. The DJK sports association itself was founded in Würzburg in 1920 and today has over 458,000 members in around 1,100 clubs. President Michael Leyendecker leads the association, which sees itself as a mediator between church and sport, with the aim of motivating teenagers and young adults to take up sport. The DJK is also a member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation and organizes its own championships.
The upcoming anniversary celebration will take place over two days: On June 28th there will be an internal club evening with awards, followed by a sporting day on June 29th. From 1 p.m. the C youth and the first team will compete against SV Erlenbach at 3 p.m. An extensive range of grilled specialties, coffee and cakes will delight visitors.
Social commitment
The DJK-TSV is not only involved in sports, but also socially. The association is active at the annual Christmas market and other celebrations in the community. The club currently has around 190 members with a large number of active players in nine teams. The club's future seems promising, not least thanks to the youth playgroups that have been formed with several locations in the southern Spessart.
The DJK-TSV Stadtprozelten remains an integral part of the region, which can look back on an eventful past and makes an important contribution to the community and youth sports. Here’s to the next 50 years!
