There will soon be a special musical event in Munich. On Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the St. Andrew's Church at Walliser Str. 11 will be the venue for an impressive performance of “Missa pro defunctis” by Niccolò Jommelli. This celebration is not only a highlight in the church music calendar, but also a homage to the Duchess Mother Maria Augusta, whose death was the reason for this moving work.
Jommelli, once court music director to the Duke of Württemberg, is known for his ability to combine Italian expressivity with liturgical depth. His funeral mass, composed in 1756, is one of the most important of the 18th century. This means that the concert not only promises musical enjoyment, but also a touching experience for the listeners.
A top-class ensemble
The performance is accompanied by renowned soloists. The talented Anna-Maria Palii (soprano), Ruth Volpert (alto), Moon Yung Oh (tenor) and Timo Janzen (bass) will be heard on stage. They are supported by the traditional Augsburg baroque orchestra “La Banda”, which specializes in historically informed performances.
In addition, the Andreas Kantorei and students from the Krumbach Vocational School of Music will contribute their skills to give this special occasion the appropriate setting. The additional program includes works by Bruhns, Herzogenberg and Bach, which will further enrich the musical palette.
