S-Bahn chaos in Munich: Turnout work ensures massive failures!
München, Deutschland - The situation in regional traffic around Munich is currently being quite challenging. The railway line between Munich-Giesing and Holzkirchen remains closed for several days due to necessary course work in Unterhaching and Deisenhofen, as the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) and Deutsche Bahn announced on Sunday afternoon. The closure has existed since Friday and is expected to continue until Sunday.
But what does that mean specifically for travelers? There are some significant changes for the affected lines, especially the S 3 of the Munich S-Bahn. For the time being there are no stops between Giesing and Holzkirchen. Until the regular journeys are restored, the S 3 will only be traveling between Maisach and the Ostbahnhof every ten minutes. Regional transport, in particular the trains of lines RB 55, RB 56, RB 57 and RB 58, are turned in Holzkirchen.

In order to continue to enable travelers, a rail replacement traffic with buses and large taxes has been set up. Travelers can travel to Munich every hour with the RB 58 from Deisenhofen via Solln.
The warnings of BRB and Deutsche Bahn are unmistakable: travelers should check their connections at short notice and only travel between Giesing and Holzkirchen on urgent trips. On Monday alone, 14 buses and 60 large taxis are planned for replacement traffic, but the capacities will not be sufficient to fully meet the unusual lines.

The planned course work is not the only renovation measures in the surrounding area in Munich. Gleisern renovations are also currently taking place on the route between Neubiberg and Hohenbrunn, which require an investment of around 14 million euros. This work is a partial measure as part of a comprehensive renovation program. From Friday, July 26th until Monday, August 26th, there will also be changes to timetables and replacement traffic to renew over four kilometers long tracks and to improve the infrastructure.
The need for such measures can also be seen in the broader perspective of the Railway industry . Despite sales record of 14.4 billion euros in 2022 and a large number of employees in the industry, the renovation of the rail network remains a major challenge. This urgent work is not only important for the implementation of a better service in the present, but also for the future of rail transport in Germany.
Overall, one can say that the current construction sites and the associated timetable changes require a good dose of patience from travelers. It remains to be seen how long the impairments take, but the information from the company promises that it will be announced more precisely next week.
