Dangerous drug trend in Bavaria: Two deaths due to research chemicals!

The drug warnings don't stop. On November 7, 2025, the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) reported that the consumption of a dangerous research chemical could be responsible for the deaths of two men in Bavaria. According to the official announcement, the chemical IC-26, a methadone derivative, is the cause of death of a 43-year-old from Neu-Ulm, who died on May 25, 2025, and a 20-year-old from Ansbach, whose body was discovered on June 7, 2025.

The BLKA emphasizes that there are already several incidents known in which users had to receive medical care due to the consumption of these substances, in some cases even due to loss of consciousness. It is alarming that research chemicals, often marketed as so-called research chemicals, are only partially subject to the German Narcotics Act and the Act on New Psychoactive Substances. These drugs are sold online and are often deceptively advertised as being suitable for research.

Incalculable risks

“The negative effects of consumption cannot be predicted,” warns the BLKA. It has been found again and again that even the smallest amounts of these chemicals can have dramatic health consequences, including death. It is also interesting that interactions with other medications, alcohol or other psychoactive substances cannot be estimated. By February 2025, a total of at least seven people in Bavaria, aged between 17 and 38, had lost their lives after consuming research chemicals.

The list of dangers is long. Expert reports show that these chemicals are increasingly becoming a central cause of death. The question remains how long the authorities can stand by and do nothing while the number of victims rises.

Social impact and media resonance

Reporting on such topics causes waves in society. One would think that we live in a protected environment, far away from drugs and their dilemmas. But the reality looks different. Such reports continue to emerge and make it clear that it is time to raise awareness of the dangers of these new psychoactive substances.

A bright spot in the current media landscape are entertaining films like “Friends with Benefits,” which was released in 2011 and directed by Will Gluck. This addresses modern relationships and offers the audience the opportunity to reflect on emotional bonds. While critics have praised the film - receiving positive feedback about the chemistry between Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, as well as a number of award nominations - the ultimate question remains whether such content can help deter young people from the dangers of detached lifestyles.

In summary, the incidents in Bavaria illustrate how important it is to seriously discuss the consumption of research chemicals. Everyone should be aware of the risks and exercise necessary caution. A good hand in dealing with these issues could help make society a little safer.
