Violent crime on the bus: 57-year-old harasses young people in Ulm!
On the night of July 19, 2025, a shocking violent crime occurred in Ulm that began on a public bus. At around 12:40 a.m., a 17-year-old teenager was sitting on the bus heading to Wiblingen when a 57-year-old man, obviously under the influence of alcohol, sat down next to her. He tried to talk to the young woman without any embarrassment, but she didn't respond to his attempts. The man then became increasingly pushy and harassed the girl, which escalated the situation.
The situation quickly deteriorated when three courageous passengers aged 17, 18 and 21 intervened and asked the man to leave the teenager alone. Despite her intervention, the attacker did not remain calm and touched the 17-year-old inappropriately, resulting in minor injuries. Eventually there was a physical altercation between the witnesses and the attacker. The police were alerted and arrested the man, whose alcohol test showed an alarming level of over 1.5 per mille. Although he was released on site, he is now facing charges of assault.
Crescendo of violence
Unfortunately, such incidents are not isolated cases, as the statistics on violent crime in Germany show. According to an evaluation by Statista Violent crimes account for less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police, but they have a significant impact on the population's sense of security. Around 217,000 violent crimes were registered in 2024, the highest number since 2007. The increasing proportion of young violent criminals is particularly noticeable: around a third of the suspects are under 21 years of age.
The reasons for the sharp increase are diverse and range from economic uncertainty to psychosocial stress, which may have been exacerbated by the corona pandemic. A survey from May 2024 showed that 94% of Germans consider violence and aggression against employees in politics, police and emergency services to be a serious problem. This casts a worrying light on society and shows that there is a need for action.
Another incident in Ulm
However, the city is not spared from further incidents. On April 25, 2025, another serious incident occurred in front of a discotheque on Hirschstrasse. That night, around 4 a.m., three men aged 21, 26 and 27 were injured, some seriously, with the 26-year-old suffering particularly serious head injuries from a brass knuckle. The police have already started investigating and are calling on witnesses to come forward. The injured were taken to a clinic while investigators deal with the incident.
The increasing amount of violence in German society is alarming. In 2023, around 2,740 acts of violence against rescue workers were registered - a high that indicates dramatic social conditions. The sharp increase in violence against helpers in emergency situations also makes it clear that social problems are not only reflected in an increase in violent acts, but also in the way in which they are dealt with.
The events in Ulm are part of a larger trend that is affecting citizens' sense of security and must be urgently addressed to prevent similar incidents in the future. The police and the public are called upon to work together for greater security and a respectful society.
