Ax and knife in disco: 56-year-old causes excitement in Neuburg!

In Neuburg an der Donau it was anything but quiet on the night of Sunday, June 16, 2025. A 56-year-old man caused a stir when he was picked up around 4 a.m. near two restaurants on Oskar-Wittmann-Strasse with an ax and a knife mounted on a selfie stick. As donaukurier.de reports, concerned witnesses called the police, who quickly arrived on the scene.

When the emergency services arrived, the man handed the ax over to a discotheque employee and gave confusing information when he was searched. Next to the axe, the police discovered the mounted knife, which was also confiscated. Despite the worrying incident, a breathalyzer test showed no alcohol content in the man's blood. Eventually the police took down his personal details and let him go again. Investigations are now underway into a violation of the weapons law.

Another incident in Neuburg

Just a short time before, on May 20, 2025, the police and the public had already experienced a similar incident in Neuburg. A 48-year-old man was caught on Sudetenlandstrasse with four knives, two of them in his waistband. Witnesses also informed the police here. Under threat of force, the man was taken to the ground and handcuffed.

During the search it turned out that two of the knives violated the weapons law. It could be observed that the man was under the influence of medication. In this case too, the reason for carrying the weapons remains unclear. Investigations are being conducted against him in order to clarify the background, as pfaffenhofen-today.de also notes.

A look at the development of crime

These incidents also shed light on the current crime situation in Germany. According to the Police Crime Statistics (PKS) from the Federal Criminal Police Office, overall crime fell by 1.7% in 2024. The main reason for this is the decline in cannabis crimes due to partial legalization since April 1, 2024. Nevertheless, there is an increase in crimes that affect citizens' sense of security, as statista.com highlights.

What is particularly striking is the high number of violations of the weapons law and the frequent incidents in which people carry dangerous weapons in public. In 2024, 285 murder cases were registered in Germany and over 42,800 people were victims of sexual crimes. It remains to be seen whether these developments will have an impact on the security situation in Neuburg.

Today's incident highlights the need for increased awareness of gun laws and public safety in today's society. The police will certainly continue to be vigilant and monitor the situation.
