In the small community of Rückholz in Ostallgäu there is lively discussion about the planned establishment of a new REWE store. Mayor Franz Erl announced that REWE and an investor had agreed to build a supermarket. The people who previously had to travel to the neighboring towns of Seeg or Nesselwang to shop can expect a far-reaching improvement. The planned property for the new market extends over approximately one hectare, northwest of the Lipp bakery. With a sales area of 1200 square meters and an additional beverage market of 400 square meters, the supermarket will meet Rückholzer's needs. Offices and social rooms are planned for the upper floor, while parking decks or underground garages are not planned. This was decided by the community several years ago; Choosing REWE as a partner was a logical decision.
Discussion and planning in progress
The next step in development is urban planning, which should take around six months. Erl mentioned that the electricity supply is still pending and that the investor has not been named. REWE originally planned to buy the property and build the building itself. Ultimately, the decision was made to rent the properties, which made it necessary to find an external investor. A private investor was then found at the beginning of the year.
The community is also eyeing Main Street to make improvements during construction. These include, among other things, the construction of crossing aids for pedestrians and new bus stops on both sides of the street. There are also plans to redesign the square opposite the bakery, which will improve the entire area.
A step in the right direction
The Rückholz local council considers the establishment of a full-service provider to be urgent, after all, the residents have been dealing with this issue for some time. The construction of the new REWE market represents important progress for the approximately 1,100 residents of the community. This step could not only make shopping easier for the reclaimers, but also create new jobs and stimulate the local economy. It remains to be seen whether the ambitious plans actually lead to the desired results.
