25 years of the Primiz celebration: St. Martin in Weingarten shines in new splendor!

On June 22, 2025, a very special anniversary will be celebrated in the parish of St. Martin: 25 years since the primacy of the priest who celebrated his first mass in his home parish after his ordination. The priest takes the time to reflect on his personal growth in faith and celebrate together with the parishioners. These festive occasions are not only a sign of church life, but also bring the community closer together ZDF reported.

The roots of St. Martin's Church go back to the 8th century, when it was consecrated to the Franconian national saint Martin of Tours. The church was originally founded as a burial place for the Guelphs by Welf IV in 1056 and replaced a previous Romanesque building. But after a devastating fire, the church was rebuilt in 1914 in the neo-baroque style, which is still reflected today in the artistic design of the church Wikipedia described in detail.

Architectural masterpiece

The St. Martin's Church is one of the most magnificent baroque churches in Germany and impresses with its monumental dimensions of 67 meters high and 102 meters long. Abbot Hyller wanted to imitate almost half the dimensions of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The building, which was built between 1715 and 1724 under the direction of Donato Giuseppe Frisoni, is characterized by its impressive frescoes by Cosmas Damian Asam, which cover an area of around 1,100 m², and is considered the pinnacle of Baroque church painting.

The design of the church includes elements typical of the Baroque, such as curved gables and impressive light and shadow effects that appeal to all the senses and leave overwhelming impressions, explains Portal pillar.

Religious meaning and community

In the parish, the Holy Blood, which is venerated as a relic, becomes the subject of the traditional blood ride every year. This religious celebration attracts large numbers of believers and symbolizes the community's deep roots in its traditions. In addition, the basilica is not only a place of faith, but also an exchange between generations, as interested parishioners can be reached before and after the service on 0700 - 14 14 10 10 until 6 p.m. (6 cents/minute from the Deutsche Telekom landline).

Every detail, whether the artistic stuccowork or the impressive organ by Joseph Gabler, contributes to the magnificent atmosphere of the church and makes it a popular destination for visitors and pilgrims. The numerous renovations the church has received over the years show how much the place is valued and needs to continue to be looked after.

Today everyone is invited to watch the service and get involved in the celebrations, whether on site or via additional information that can be found at www.zdf. Fernsehengottesdienst.de. It promises to be a beautiful day for everyone who wants to celebrate their faith and community.
