What are these frightening incidents on the road? The police in the Rhön have increased their control measures in recent days and have come across alarming cases of drivers who are heavily intoxicated behind the wheel. One of the most recent findings occurred in Burkardroth: A 51-year-old driver of a self-propelled work machine was stopped - without a valid driver's license and with symptoms typical of drugs. The suspicion of cannabis consumption was not unfounded, which resulted in a blood sample being taken. Proceedings are now underway for driving without a license and violating the Road Traffic Act.
Surprising discoveries during inspections
A worrying case was also discovered in Mellrichstadt. A 47-year-old driver was checked in Willmers and also did not have a valid driver's license. In addition, the rapid drug test came back positive. After the immediate blood sample, further driving was of course prohibited. The police in Knetzgau noticed something similar: a 50-year-old bus driver was both drunk and unable to carry out a breath alcohol test - the blood test followed immediately and proceedings were initiated here too.
These negative examples show that more information is needed about the dangers of alcohol and drug driving. This is the mission Association against alcohol and drugs in road traffic e.V. made a task. The non-profit organization is based in Hamburg and aims to promote traffic education and educate people about the dangers caused by intoxicating substances. It is important to find solutions and thereby increase road safety for everyone.
Gateways to further problems
In the Rhön, however, it's not just alcohol and drugs. A traffic accident recently occurred between a driver and a cyclist in Burkardroth. The 37-year-old woman ignored the cyclist's right of way and caused total damage of around 5,000 euros, which led to proceedings for negligent bodily harm.
Another accident in Schweinfurt shows an unpleasant trend: there was a collision between an e-scooter driver and a cyclist, in which the cyclist fled. The e-scooter driver was slightly injured and the police are asking for any relevant information about the fleeing cyclist.
So there is a lot to do to increase safety on the roads. The police call on you to be vigilant and to act immediately if you observe suspicious driving behavior. And let's be honest: road safety should be a concern for all of us so that we can get from A to B safely.
