Triathlon spectacle in Roth: world records and 250,000 fans expected!

When the triathlon in Roth calls, the fans flock! The next edition will take place on July 6, 2025 DATEV Challenge Roth takes place, the largest long-distance triathlon event in the world. Here in Cologne, sports enthusiasts and athletes are looking forward to the event, which has stood for exciting competitions and emotional moments since 1984.

Around 3,500 individual athletes and 700 relay teams will compete on the demanding course, which stretches over 3.8 km of swimming, 180 km of cycling and finally 42.2 km of running. Up to 250,000 fans are expected along the route to support the athletes with great enthusiasm. This is guaranteed to be a spectacle to behold!

The event on television

Bayerischer Rundfunk has decided to broadcast the entire event live. Viewers can look forward to a broadcast on BR television, which begins at 6:15 a.m. and runs until 3:15 p.m. This exciting reporting will be interrupted by a short break from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., during which the race will continue on BR24Sport, in the ARD media library and on sportschau.de. From 2:15 p.m. you can also see highlights and live images from Roth on the first.

As special guests, the focus will be on athletes Laura Philipp, who is considered the women's favorite, and Jan Stratmann and Frederic Funk, who are competing with Ironman world champion Sam Laidlow. After a technical defect at the Ironman Frankfurt, Jonas Schomburg will also be at the start. Another eye-catcher is defending champion Anne Haug, who will not take part in person, but will appear as a co-commentator on BR. Christoph Netzel, the BR's sports director, highlights the emotions and spectacular motivations of this great event.

New world records in sight

For the sporting aspirants, the competition could be a real record hunt. New world records have already been set by Magnus Ditlev and Anne Haug in 2024, and in 2025 the magical eight hours could even fall for women. The top-class starters ensure immense excitement and an exciting atmosphere in the Roth triathlon district. This place, known for the historic swimming start on the Main-Danube Canal and the legendary Solar Hill, becomes the scene of records and thrilling duels.
