TSG Roth in competition: promotion or relegation in the triathlon Bundesliga?

On Sunday, July 16, 2025, the second race of the 1st Triathlon Bundesliga will take place in Tübingen, in which TSG 08 Roth will also take part. After a solid 8th place in the opening competition in Kraichgau, the team's focus is now on staying in the league, ideally in the middle of the table. However, the competition is strong, as Team Berlin with Ironman 70.3 World Champion Rico Bogen and DSW Darmstadt, represented by Ironman 70.3 European Champion Fabian Kraft, are among others. The race starts at 3:30 p.m. with a swim in the Neckar, followed by a less demanding bike route and a challenging run through the old town.

TSG Roth can count on some fresh talent this year. New to the squad are the young athletes Jan Pluta and Moritz Hartmann, who are already following in the footsteps of great triathletes. Elias Knoll from Ruppmannsburg will also start for TSG. Unfortunately, Moritz Hägel will not be able to take part as he is concentrating on qualifying for the Junior European Championships. Jonas Wechsler steps in for him, but is returning to competition after a long-term injury and came third at the Rothsee Triathlon four weeks ago.

The youngsters are enthusiastic

The TSG 08 Roth has not only attracted adult triathletes, young people are also showing great interest and enjoyment in the sport. Around 30 children and young people train regularly at Rothsee, wearing their black triathlon suits and colorful swimming caps. The group jumps into the deep end on command to prepare for their own competitions. “It's about showing what you're made of,” says twelve-year-old Katharina, illustrating the motivation of the young athletes. The Roth district is particularly characterized by the Challenge Roth, one of the largest triathlon events in the world, which certainly inspires many of them.

The coaching team, led by Thomas Thiel, enjoys watching how the young athletes develop. He notes that the competitions for children and young people cover distances of several hundred meters and that the focus is on having fun with the sport. “We don’t have any youth problems in the club at the moment,” confirms Thiel with a smile. Magdalena, an experienced triathlete, remembers her first competition when she was just seven years old.
