Schwabach: New barrier-free shopping carts for all Edeka customers!

A lot is happening for inclusion in Schwabach: new barrier-free shopping carts are now available in two Edeka Krawczyk stores. This campaign was made possible through the collaboration of Lebenshilfe Schwabach-Roth and Aktion Mensch and takes an important step towards a barrier-free shopping environment. The carts are available in the Edeka markets on Pointgraben and Nördlinger Straße and, thanks to their innovative features, offer great help for parents and children with special needs.

Equipped with a sturdy seat and a seat belt, these new shopping carts not only allow you to transport groceries comfortably, but also provide a safe place for children while shopping. The padded seat can also be wiped clean, which further increases comfort. A customer showed great interest during the official handover and asked whether the car could also be used for short breaks. This shows how versatile the shopping carts can be used, which was also confirmed by those responsible.

Accessibility for everyone

The introduction of accessible shopping carts is part of a broader initiative to promote accessibility. As has already been emphasized, accessibility not only benefits people with disabilities, but also seniors, parents with strollers or people with temporary mobility restrictions. Loud Human Action Access to public buildings and services is essential for everyone.

Lebenshilfe Schwabach-Roth emphasizes that inclusion benefits everyone and represents a goal for society as a whole. In this context, it is important that accessibility not only includes physical access, but also provides information in simple language or with illustrations to enable people with learning difficulties or language barriers to participate independently in social life.

The importance of accessibility

Public transport also plays a central role in the discussion about accessibility. There is still a lot to do with a legal goal of making public transport accessible to people with disabilities by January 1, 2022. In many cities, this goal has not yet been achieved, as Lebenshilfe mentions in its report. The federal government is now planning to further promote accessibility in public transport in the coalition agreement by 2026 so that on-demand mobility offers are also accessible to more people.

So it's clear: Accessibility is not just a concern for specific groups, but affects us all. The new shopping carts are a small but significant step in the right direction and show that awareness of the needs of others is constantly growing. The future is inclusive — and that is a win for our society.
