Büchelkühn celebrates the Burschenkirwa: tradition meets new location!
When the boys' fair takes place at the Schützenheim in Büchelkühn from July 18th to 20th, the mood is great. This year too, with a new location, the festival promises the usual fun and popular traditions that bring young and old together. The anticipation is great and we can't wait to see what the Kirwa couples have to offer this time. The delicious specialties for the fair will make their contribution to this.
On July 12th, the boys and the Kirwamoidln go from house to house to invite people to the Kirwa in the neighborhood. The home visits start at 8 a.m. sharp, and the residents can look forward to colorful invitations and perhaps one or two sounds of singing. Ten Kirwa couples are already diligently rehearsing their dances in the Schützenheim under the guidance of Simone Götzer and are providing the right entertainment.
Tradition meets conviviality
The Kirchweih is an important festival in many places in the Upper Palatinate, not only for the locals but also for visitors from the surrounding area. As oberpfaelzerwald.de notes, the traditional kirwa or butter cake is often baked for kirwa. For anyone who wants to lend a hand, here is a simple recipe to conjure up happy faces everywhere:
- Für den Hefeteig:
- 100 g Milch
- 100 g Sahne
- 60 g weiche Butter
- 90 g Zucker
- 2 Eier
- 1 Würfel Hefe
- 1 TL Salz
- 500 g Mehl
- Für die Quarkschmiere:
- 500 g Magerquark
- 125 g Zucker
- 125 g Butter
- 1 ganzes Ei
- 2 Eigelb
- 50 g Sahne
- 1 Esslöffel Rum
- 1 Pack Vanillezucker
- 1 Pack Vanillepuddingpulver
- Safran
The preparation is simple: Heat the ingredients for the yeast dough slightly, mix everything well and let it rise a little. After rolling out, the quark slurry goes on top and then goes into the oven. After about 30 minutes at 200°C you have a real culinary delight that cannot be missed at Kirwa!
A look into history
The church fair used to play a very central role in farm life, as unsere-bauern.de reveals. There was a lot of celebrating, eating and drinking - a real opportunity for the village community to come together. The church consecration actually falls on the third Sunday in October and is traditionally celebrated on the day the churches are consecrated. The population from surrounding villages was and is always warmly invited, regardless of whether they visit the neighboring villages after their own church fair or whether you receive a visit from them yourself.
The fair remains a living part of Bavarian culture, which also reinterprets the Büchelkühner Burschenkirwa with heart and a cheerful atmosphere. With the preparations and the delicious cake, nothing stands in the way of a colorful celebration.
