Starnberg: New training for migrants - bridge to integration!
Bridge construction is underway again in the heart of Starnberg! The district office is committed to supporting people with a migrant background through well-founded training. The aim is to integrate newly arrived fellow citizens from abroad into society. The initiative is looking for fluent German speakers who are willing to get involved in their new home.
The training to become a language and cultural mediator starts at the end of October and runs until mid-December. It consists of three Saturdays and six evening events. The program not only includes translations during doctor's visits or consultations, but also the communication of intercultural aspects, which is intended to prevent misunderstandings and communication barriers. This is considered particularly important in order to bring different cultures closer together and promote exchange.
Training and certificates
Just last year, 18 participants from different countries of origin, such as Ukraine, Iran, Yemen, Greece and the Congo, successfully completed their degree as language and cultural mediators. These committed immigrants are now available to organizations, social institutions, offices, daycare centers and schools. Although they are not professional interpreters, they bring valuable intercultural skills and language skills to avoid misunderstandings. The training was led by the social educators Katharina Trägler and Barbara Huber, supplemented by the expertise of Gabi Lifka from Diakonie Mühldorf, who gave a lecture on translations in therapeutic settings.
What is special about this project is the financial support from the district office. Compensation for interpreting services is provided, especially if the people to be supported are recipients of social benefits. This ensures that cultural understanding does not fail because of money and that many people can benefit from this offer.
Information event and registration
An information event about the current training program will take place on Thursday, July 10th, at 5:30 p.m. in the Starnberg district office. Those interested can get a first impression of the content and the course of the training. Anyone who would like to get involved can register directly with Barbara Huber and Katharina Trägler on the telephone numbers 08151/148-77314 and -77673 or by email.
With this approach, the Starnberg district office has sent a strong signal for integration and understanding. It remains to be hoped that many motivated people will find the way to training and thereby support not only themselves, but those around them.
