850 euros for families in need: KLJB Stein shows incredible solidarity!

A shining example of neighborly help was recently set in Stein near Cologne. On October 25, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., numerous young people from the Catholic Rural Youth Movement (KLJB) Stein mobilized to get involved in a fundraising campaign. They not only helped with raking leaves, washing cars and gardening, but also diligently collected donations for the Lichtblicke campaign. In total, they were able to raise a remarkable amount of 850 euros, which will now benefit families in difficult life situations, as oberpfalzecho.de reports.

The patron of the campaign, Claudia Grillmeier, is enthusiastic about the commitment of the young helpers and thanked the KLJB for their great commitment. “There are many families who need our support and it is nice to see the community coming together to help,” said Grillmeier, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives.

What does the Bright Spots campaign do?

The Lichtblicke campaign has been a ray of hope for many children and families in North Rhine-Westphalia for over 27 years. Founded in 1998, the organizers are committed to providing support to people experiencing material, financial or emotional hardship. So far, an incredible 305,000 children and their families have been able to benefit from the campaign, as they explain on their website.

The joint fundraising campaign, which was launched by 45 local radio stations in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as church aid organizations such as Diakonie and Caritas, focuses in particular on families in exceptional emergency situations. Of the over 94 million euros that have been collected since its founding, most of the money has gone directly to those affected in North Rhine-Westphalia. What is particularly noteworthy is that the administrative costs are less than 10 percent, which is recognized with the DZI donation seal. This means donors can be sure that their support will be received directly.

Celebrities and community actions

Prominent personalities also support this important work. Voices like those of Adel Tawil and Max Giesinger underline that everyone gets a kick back when they invest in the community. “Every child in need is an indictment for all of us,” said Tawil. Max Giesinger added: “I support the Lichtblicke campaign because it directly helps children and young people in need.” Live concerts also contribute to support and make the campaign a popular topic.

The willingness to donate is in demand all year round, not just during Advent. All interested citizens and companies can support the campaign and advocate for the interests of children and families in need. Online donations make it possible to help at any time, and there are many creative ways to do this, as the community actions in Stein show.

The not only solidarity but also positive atmosphere created by such activities cannot be overestimated. “If we just take a minute and donate to families who don't have so much, that's something good,” said Rea Garvey, getting to the heart of the matter.

The Lichtblicke campaign remains an indispensable part of the social fabric in North Rhine-Westphalia. You too can support this valuable initiative and help so that even more children and families in this region can experience a little hope and support.
