Denise Herrmann-Wick: Sports career, baby happiness and financial coaching!

Denise Herrmann-Wick, the former biathlete and cross-country skier, caused a stir at a recent Deutsche Vermögensberatung Aktiengesellschaft (DVAG) event at the Unternberg Hof Ruhpolding. Under the motto “Finance & career coaching meets sport”, the heavily pregnant athlete spoke about her experiences and the importance of financial planning in sport.

Herrmann-Wick, who is expecting her second child, a boy, in April 2024, will soon slow down. “I plan to withdraw a little until the birth,” says the 36-year-old from Ruhpolding. Your participation in the DVAG event was a valuable contribution to a topic that poses challenges for many athletes: financial security during and after their career. She has a lot to thank DVAG for here, especially with her change in sports and financial planning.

Financial challenges in sport

As financial expert Tarik El Bouazzaoui of Talisman Consulting points out, early strategic wealth planning is essential for athletes. “Athletes often have high salaries, but their careers usually end in the mid-30s,” explains El Bouazzaoui. This requires clever planning in order to be financially secure after your sporting career. Challenges such as limited career times, irregular income and complex tax issues are developments that many athletes have to face.

Denise Herrmann-Wick has recognized the importance of this topic and wants to help other athletes navigate the treacherous waters of finances. Speakers at the event provided valuable food for thought and discussed the need for structured financial planning and a mix of different sources of income.

A look at their successes

The successful athlete looks back on a remarkable career: In 2022 she won individual gold at the Olympic Games and can look back on a total of nine medals at world championships. She most recently resigned on March 14, 2023 after the 2022/2023 season, after seven years in the World Cup. She has achieved 12 individual victories and a total of 40 podium places - impressive figures that show that she is among the elite in biathlon.

Their sequence of achievements is a testament to hard work and dedication. With the sports week under our belt, during which many local winter sports enthusiasts took advantage of the offer full of food for thought, we can only hope that the coming challenges for Denise Herrmann-Wick will be mastered as masterfully as her sporting performances. With her last flight this weekend to celebrate DVAG's 50th birthday in Frankfurt, she is closing another chapter in her career.

Overall, the events surrounding Denise Herrmann-Wick show that the connection between sport and financial responsibility has become a central issue in the lives of many athletes. One can only hope that her words and experiences inspire others to take up the topic of financial planning - because the career is short, but the challenges are long.
